Data Driven Decisions
Equity Healthcare has invested in a sophisticated integrated database and decision-support system to provide a panoramic view into each company’s health care performance. The database, combined with deep analytic expertise, allows EH to:
- Lead our portfolio companies beyond reporting about past performance to explaining what happened and predicting future outcomes
- Deliver actionable insights for portfolio companies and their brokers and consultants using the company’s specific trends to identify targeted opportunities
- Support decision-making at several levels:
- Annual C-Suite report which presents information on health performance that is relevant, concise, and jargon free
- Standard reports target tactical plan performance decisions to enable Benefits Managers to better manage health plan performance
- Self-service reporting allows participating portfolio companies real-time access to their own health data
Examples include:
- Equity Healthcare’s analysis for the CEO of a multi-site retailer with a spike in musculoskeletal claims resulted in a change in job descriptions and work flow. ...more
Equity Health detected a significant spike in the incidence of musculoskeletal claims over a short period of time at a multi-site retailer, resulting in a high overall cost trend. In the annual EH meeting with the CEO, it was discovered that the company had recently consolidated all deliveries to each store to one day a week in order to gain time efficiencies. The new model required an "all hands on deck" approach in which all store staff would go to the loading dock and help empty the trucks. HOWEVER, the majority of the workers were not trained in lifting and some were experiencing back and shoulder problems. During the annual EH meeting, the CEO decided to modify the work flow and assign specific workers to unload the trucks, and asked Equity Health to procure a national lifting and back program to teach proper lifting techniques.

- Equity Healthcare enabled a service industry company with locations in all 50 states to develop a targeted resource-efficient response to overall cost increases associated with lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. ...more
A national service industry company faced overall cost increases driven by lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, but lacked the internal funds to address the problem nation-wide. Equity Health analyzed the data and identified the three highest cost conditions and three poorest performing locations. By implementing a targeted response to the overall cost increase, our portfolio company was able to apply aggressive lifestyle programs in those sites and bring down overall costs.

- At a C-suite meeting, Equity Healthcare helped identify a solution to the challenge of poor employee engagement with disease management nurses. ...more
One of our portfolio companies was struggling to improve the percentage of employees who engaged with nurses in lifestyle and condition management. Equity Healthcare identified the cause -- a higher than usual rate of inaccurate phone numbers. Despite several efforts, the wrong-number problem proved intractable. During our C-Suite review, the CEO changed policy and authorized nurses to call employees at the worksite instead of at their homes. The CEO, responding to objections that this might “decrease productivity,” noted that "Any decreased productivity [due to the phone interruption] has to be less than not having people at work at all because they're sick."
